A record appropriation of $148,208 for" research and research teaming in the next 12 months was announced Wednesday by the Louisiana Heart Association.
The grants were made for the 1959-60 fiscal year beginning July 1, according to Dr. Homer J. Dupuy, LHA president, who said the grants amount to double the appropriations of last year and establish the association as the state's leader in medical research in the voluntary agency field.
He said the funds are for .expenses only, adding that the men will work without personal compensation from the association. The major portion of the funds, $66,323 will be used to support 17 major grants-in-aid4 to-Louisiana scientists. In addition, $45,921 will directly finance research grants of the American Heart Association.
