Volunteer heart councils are now operating in 56 parishes of the state, the president of the Louisiana Heart Assn. told a fall board of directors meeting here.
Dr. Homer J. Dupuy of New Orleans, heart association president, said these parishes are now conducting programs, including public education, memorial gifts, heart fund activities and professional education. Dr. Dupuy said the 56 council total compares with 38 which were activated through April of this year.
"We are moving ahead rapidly and expect to have heart councils operating in every Louisiana parish by the end of the year," Dr. Dupuy said.
Two officers of the board were re-elected for the coming year. They are city Judge Ward L. Tilly of New* Iberia, chairman, and Dr. Roland Abegg of Ruston, vice-chairman. Elected as secretery was Mrs. Alfred C. Alltmont of Reserve.
Elected to the association's executive committee were Solomon Snyder of Bastrop, Dr. H. S. Mayerson of New Orleans and Dr. Edgar Hull of New Orleans.
Dr. Hull, who is associate dean of the Louisiana State university school of medicine in New Orleans, was recognized by the board for his election last month as a vice-president of the American Heart Assn.
