One of the most coveted awards in medicine, the Gross prise for surgical research, has been awarded to Dr. Frederick F. Boyce, practicing New Orleans physician and instructor at the Louisiana State university medical school, it was learned here today.
Made only each five years, the present award marks the first time a Southern physician has received it. The prize itself is a check from the Gross Foundation for $1500 and is given after a poll of leading American physicians who vote on entered material without knowing the name of the contestants.
