Gen. Troy Middleton, president of Louisiana State university said here Monday a Communist will not be tolerated on the LSU staff.
"If I ever have the slightest notion that one is hiding behind the bushes on any LSU campus, I'm going to be one of the first persons to go after him," he added.
Gen. Middleton discussed the recent legislative order to investigate LSU professors for possibility of subversion at a luncheon at the LSU Medical school. ,
The luncheon was attended by legislators from the New Orleans area, by members of the board of administrators of LSU and by faculty members from the LSU Medical school and LSU in New Orleans. It had as its main purpose discussion of LSU's request for a tax-supported appropriation for 1961-62 totalling $25,422,743. . JUST AND FAIR
Gen, Middleton told those attending the luncheon that LSU is under a cloud and he would like to see that cloud lifted. He said he does not object to criticism provided it is just and fair.
"We have 650 facutly members," he added. "Now if you took 650 leading citizens say of New Orleans or Baton Rouge or Shreveport and sifted through them It's-possible you might find an odd ball among them. You might find among them someone who would write the legislature a nasty letter."
