There were fewer deaths and fewer autopsies performed during the year ending May, 1961, as' compared with the previous 12 months, the annual report of Dr. Nicholas J. Cheta, parish cor-oner, showed today.
His report reveals that during the past 12 months there have been 4197 coroner cases as compared with 4463 during the period1 ending May, 1960.
Total deaths were 8904 in 1961, against 9259 in 1960.
Total number of autopsies performed in the year were 2089, of which 1379 were in natural deaths. Five cases were reported under investigation.
There were 73 homicides, 64 suicides, 123 deaths from motor vehicle accidents, nine other transport accident deaths, and 279 other fatal accident cases.
Of the deaths from natural causes, 1480 were reported due to diseases of the circulatory system. Next highest was 536 deaths due to diseases of early Infancy,
