A plaque honoring him for long and diligent service to the cause of professional medicine" has been presented to Dr, Edmund Lawrence Leckert of New Orleans by the Louisiana State Medical Society,
The special honor was conferred upon the veteran New Orleans physician by unanimous*~
vote of the state medical group's house of delegates.
The 79-year-old Dr, Leckert obtained his degree in medicine from Tulane university in 1905, was an organizer of Mercy hospital where he served as chairman of the board and chief surgeon for many years, and served as superintendent of Charity hospital from 1952 to 1956. On State Board
Dr, Leckert was assoicated with the state board of medical examiners for 46 years and served as president of the board from 1939 to 1953. He was a board member until his retirement in May of this year.
In presenting the plaque, Dr.
C. J. Brown, president of the state medical group, hailed Dr, Leckert as a representative of ''the finest in professional medicine."

The presentation was made at Dr. Leckert's home by a committee including Dr. Brown; Dr. C. Grenes Cole, secretary - treasurer of the group, and Drs. Philip H. Jones and Ashton Thomas, both past-presidents of the society.
Before his May retirement, Dr. Leckert was active in many projects of the Orleans parish and state medical societies, the city board of health and other profes-sional societies and organizations.
He served as both secretary and president of the local board of health. He became a member of the Orleans Parish Medical Society in 1905 and served on the board of directors for 26 years until his retirement.
