Edward D. Rapier has been re-elected president of the Greater New Orleans Area unit of the American Cancer Society, Louisiana Division, Inc.
Other officers of the group re-elected include Dr. Neal Owens, vice-president; Philip Gensler, treasurer; and Mrs. Marigayle H, Hart, secretary.
New board members chosen were Dr. Paul Getzoff, Dr Hiram Kostmayer, Richard G Jones and George Sellers, ■ The officers and board members were named Wednesday a the annual meeting of thej board of directors of the unit held in the board room of the National American Bank. STATISTICAL STUDY During the meeting Rapier reviewed the year's activities jf the unit and reported that a otal of $139,740 was granted 3y the national and state soci-ties for cancer research pro= ects in the area.
He said also that 69 volun-j teers in this area participated in the first phase of the national society's six-year medical .statistical study. The purpose of! the study is to uncover any cancer-causing factors in en=j vironment and also to learn more about cancer's early signs and symptoms, Rapier said.
Dr. Joseph E. Schenthal, chairman of the professional education committee; Dr. Winston H. Weese, chairman of the unit's public education committee; and Mrs. Arthur Waters, chairman of the unit's 1961 crusade, also made reports during the meeting.
