In other action, the commission agreed to allocate $1,734,938 to Louisiana State university's medical school at New Orleans to provide matching US Public Health | Service funds, with the additional1 funds to be used for parking facilities at the center.
Gen. Troy H. Middleton, LSUJ president, told the commission that parking was urgently needed in that congested area.
Also in New Orleans, Charity hospital requested funds to waterproof the area surrounding its transformer and electrical system, noting a heavy rainfall flooded it recently, knocking out electric power for seven and a half hours. The commission agreed to send an engineer to determine exactly what will be needed to prevent a reoccurrence.
At De Quincy, for the first offenders institution, the commission provided that state purchasing authorities be instructed to obtain building materials to construct a dairy barn. Work will be done by institution inmates under the facility's training program.
