A 23-year-old staff nurse at Foundation hospital is the "General Duty Nurse of the Year" in the New Orleans area,
She is Miss Betty Aucoin, who was presented the "General Duty Nurse of the Year" award Monday night at an award banquet at the Louisiana State university medical school.
Miss Aucoin, who has been a professional nurse since her graduation from the LSU department 3f nursing in 1960, was judged the outstanding general duty nurse among staff nurses in 10 New Orleans hospitals.
The judging was done by a committee of professional nursing leaders in New Orleans. 10 NOMINATED
Ten staff nurses from 10 New Orleans hospitals were nominated for the title of "General Duty Nurse of the Year" by speciaL nurse selection committees of their hospitals. Miss Aucoin was [named the outstanding general duty nurse based on the functions, standards and qualifications of general duty nurses as outlined by the American Nurses' Association and the Louisiana State Nurses' Association,
Miss Aucoin received the award Monday night from Miss Veronica Majchrzak, assistant professor of nursing at the LSU department of nursing and chairman of the final selection committee.
She also received a corsage, a loving cup, a book on nursing, an American Nurses' Association pin, a key to the city of New Orleans, and gifts of clothes, uniforms, jewelry and gift certificates from New Orleans merchants.

Miss Aucoin is from Lafayette,, La. She joined the Ochsner Foundation hospital nursing staff in 1961 and formerly was a staff nurse at Our Lady of Lourdes hospital, Lafayette.
Special guests at the banquet were Dr. Thomas L. Harvey, representing the New Orleans Hospital Council; Dr. Richard L. Buck, Orleans Parish Medical So-j ciety; Miss Julie Carnahan of | New Orleans, secretary of the American Nurses' Association; Miss Myrtle A, Olstad, board of directors, Louisiana State Nurses' Association; Miss Sue Arnoult, president of the New Orleans District Nurses' Association; Mrs. Eveleyn Stumborg, president of the New Orleans* League for Nursing; directors of nursing services of New Orleans hospitals, and city councilman James F. Fitz-morris Jr., who presented Miss Aucoin a key of the city.
