Ten general duty nurses in New Orleans hospitals have been nominated for the title of General Duty Nurse of the Year in a competition sponsored by the general duty section of the New Orleans District Nurses Association.
The competition is held to encourage general duty nurses to increase professional development and to create public and professional interest in the quality and quantity of general duty nursing.
The 10 nominees were named by special professional nurse selection committees from among' staff nurses in 10 New Orleans hospitals.
The nominees will be judged by a group of professional nursing leaders who will decide the winner of the competition to be honored as the General Duty Nurse of the Year, at an honors banquet to be held at 7:30 p. m., Monday, in the auditorium of the Louisiana State university medical school. The nominees are: Miss Ann Bragg of Southern Baptist hospital, a 1959 graduate of the Baylor university school of nursing.
Mrs. Goldie Baker Huguene! of Charity hospital, a 1956 graduate of the Charity hospital school of nursing.
Miss Leona Exposito, EENT hospital, a 1939 graduate of the Hotel Dieu school of nursing.

Touro Infirmary school of nursing.
Mrs. Theresa A. Walker, Veterans' Administration hospital, 1954 graduate of St. Francis hospital school of nursing, Hartford, Conn.
Mrs. Barbara Napthly, Touro Infirmary, 1949 graduate of Orange Memorial hospital school of nursing, Orlando, Fla.
Miss Veronica Majchrzak,
assistant professor of nursing, LSU department of nursing, is chairman of the judging committee for the competition. Candidates for the award were judged by their hospital nursing' committee on the basis of functions, standards and qualifications of general duty nurses as outlined by the American Nurses' Association and the Louisiana State Nurses' Association.
