Principal speaker at the dinner was Dr. Charles M. Goss, chairman* of the department of anatomy at LSU medical school. He traced the life, discoveries and accomplishments of Galen of Pergamon, an ancient Greek physician.
president.
Noting that Galen discovered that the arteries contain blood and that the nerve to the voice comes from the brain and not from the heart, as Aristotle had believed, Dr. Goss commented that "Galen's discoveries are just as good today as they were during his lifetime, the second century after Christ.
"His theories, however, are outdated today, mainly because the circulation of the blood had not been discovered during his lifetime. However, he is important historically because this man dictated all medical thought for 1300 years after his death."
A special guest at the dinner meeting, was Miss Sallie Far-ton Rouge, who will Culver as state PHOTO: Essae M. Culver, John P. Ische, Miss Ruth Scheuermann
