Twelve grants in basic cancer research totaling more than $60,000 have been awarded by the Cancer Association of Greater New Orleans Inc. The agency is the cancer .research and service member of the United Fund. - V." f;
Recipients of the grants, will pursue research at Tulane Medical School, L.S.U. • Medical School, - L.S.U.N.O., L.S.U. Baton Rouge, Loyola University, Newcomb College and Turo Infirmary.
Those receiving grants are:
Hans J. Hansen, B.S., Ph.D., Touro Research Institute.. Dr. Hansen, who received his Ph.D. from Tulane University in 1960 will-pursue research on leukemia cells and,,the effects of the drug azaserine on leukemia.
J. N. Bickers, M.D. assistant ptofessor of medicine, Louisiana. State University "School of Medicine. Dr.; Bickers ;>will engage in basic research on the use of experimental drugs in the treatment of malignant disease. Dr. Bickers is a graduate of the\ University of'Georgia and the! Medical College -of ■Georgia. j

School of Medicine and is presently an instructor in the pathology de1-partment there, devoting his attention to studies in experimental hematoloigy. Dr. Geer, a! graduate of the L.S;U. Medical School is,also presently at L.S.U. as an associate professor of pathology.

Boyd E, Helm is currently a student at Loyola University who plans to attend L.S.U. medical school. Helm will do research at Loyola University on the effects of tobacco ringspot virus on soybean plants.

Conn received his B.S. in chemistry, at Tulane Uui-versity. and is a graduate.- of the University, of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is chairman of the department of surgery at the L.S.U. Medical School .and surgeon-in-chief of the L.S.U. surgical service,!

William F. Brandom, assistant professor of zoology at New-comb College of Tulane University. Dr. Brandom ' will engage in a study of abnormal chromosomes to determine correlation between abnormal cell development and . deviations in chromosome number. Dr. Brandom. is a graduate of Stanford University where he also received his Masters and Ph.D.
George F. Crozier Jr., student of biological sciences, Loyola University. Crozier will do research on the growth and movement of a plant virus, Tobacco Ringspot in soybeans. HORMONES STUDY
Otto Z. Sellinger, Ph.D., Tulane University School of Medicine Dr. Sellinger will engage in a study of hormones, seeking evidence for .a correlation between changes in hormonal function and the onset of cellular alterations known to lead to cancer-like conditions in experimental animals. Dr. Sellinger is a native of Yugoslavia and a graduate the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He received his Ph.D. at Tulane and is presently assistant professor 1 of biochemistry and medicine at the Tulane University School of Medicine.
William J. Mogabgab, M.D., Tulane University School of Medicine. Dr. Mogabgab will engage in research of the possible mode of. development of lung cancer. Dr. Mogabgab is currently an associate professor of medicine at Tulane.
George B^ Rorrtsirlpf Ph.D. Louisiana State University, School of Medicine. Dr. Born-side will conduct research on the effects of known cancer serum and its ability to inhibit bacterial respiration.
