"We are dedicated to go out of business the day a cure for cancer is found," former actor William Gargan told 90 volunteer workers of the American Cancer Society at a luncheon Friday at the Monteleone Hotel. "We want to go out of business," Gargan continued. "We're living in death right now. I'm not selling fear. I'm selling facts."
There is a "drug," however, Gargan said, which will cure fifty per cent of all cancer patients. "That 'drug' is communication. You volunteers bring information when you ring doorbells that will save lives."
Volunteers attending the two-day convention represent workers in 64 parishes in Louisiana/ Gargan, best known for his portrayal of "Martin Kane, Private Eye," had his voice box removed three years ago. He is living proof that cancer can be cured if the symptoms are heeded immediately.
