Thousands of followers of college sports in our city and state, and the southeastern states, will be glad to note the appointment of Dr. Wilbur Smith to the directorship of student health in the University of Wyoming. As Tulane's director of athletics during many years, as well as its professor of anatomy, he made very wide contacts. Fine personal qualities made most of them his friends.
A train of circumstances started by a quarrel between the Louisiana State University's medical faculty and managers lured him away from Tulane to become dean of the LSU's medical school and its professor of anatomy. But the quarrel in the LSU faculty went on unabated, and finally made his position there untenable.
His former colleagues and friends in Tulane gave him a remarkable testimonial of their esteem just before he went to Baton Rouge. They will be correspondingly glad to know that the whirl in which he became involved in LSU has not retired him long from activities of a sort to which he devoted himself while in New Orleans.
