Dr. Sidney S. Chipman, consultant in pediatrics for the State Department of Health, today laid down a few.simple rules for child care during summer months.
Excessive fatigue should be avoided, he said, with a hap in the afternoon for the child and adequate sleep at night.
Extra intake of fluid and salt because of increased loss of salt and water through the skin as perspiration.
He advised extra precautions in care of skin and heat rash. This is especially true for a fair child, he said, and advised skipping sun baths.
At the same time, Miss Margaret Moore, consultant in dietetics for the State Health Dept, said that the child should have three well-planned meals per day with
special attention to lean meats and with fruit and vegetables in abundance.
Miss Moore advised against cramming sweetstuffs between meals and suggested milk, fruit jukes or fruits.
She said that the use of washed dried, fruits in place of candy or cake was especially beneficial.
Dr. Chipman said that in the care of the very young infant, frequent baths and little clothing was desirable.
