Added to the staff of the Jefferson Parish Health Unit this week are three medical externes who have begun a 10-week field training program in health service.
The three, who have chosen to try the State Health Department service to see whether they would like it as a permanent career, will be on a rotating schedule. They are assigned each day by Dr. L. R. B. Centanni, head of the unit in Jefferson, to go out into the field with regular staff members.
The new staff members include Warren Boyer, 21, a native of Algiers, who will be a senior at the LSU School of Medicine next year. Boyer lives with his wife, the former Dorothy Brisbi of Metairie, at their home in 4220 Orleans.
Robert T. Gates, 24, of Starksville, Miss., is a senior in the Tulane Medical School. He is married to the former Christine Ware. William Oser, 28, of Alexandria, is a veteran of World War II. He took his college training at Pine-ville and in the LSU medical
school. He will be a junior next semester. Oser is married to the former Gloria Hewell of Cantin,Miss. They have two children, Sheryl, and Cathy
In addition to the three externes, Miss Mary Barrett, 25, of Baton Rouge, has been added as a new staff nurse. Miss Barrett has; been doing social work at Charity Hospital for the past year. She took her BA from LSU and she holds a master degree in nursing from Yale. She will take field training in public health through the Gretna office of the Jefferson Health Unit.
