Title: Alfred and William Waud Collection
The London-born Wauds' specialty was producing drawings--from quick sketches to finished works--of places, people, and events assigned to them by editors. These drawings were the basis for wood engraved illustrations in the periodicals published by their employers. Alfred Waud was hired by the New York Illustrated News in 1860 and he remained with the News for nearly two years covering the opening months of the Civil War before joining the staff of Harper's Weekly in early 1862. William Waud worked as a special artist during the Civil War for Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper. The Waud Collection presents a visually fascinating history of America in the mid-19th century, covering visually subjects as diverse as the reconstructed South, and the townships that dotted both banks of the nation's largest river system.

Title: America at War
The America at War digital collection includes a significant number of artifacts contributed by members of the Teaching American History in Louisiana (TAHIL) partnership. TAHIL providers include the Louisiana State Archives, Louisiana State Museum, The Historic New Orleans Collection and Tulane University Library Special Collections.

Title: Fonville Winans' Aerial Views of Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge photographer Fonville Winans shot at least thirteen rolls of 35mm black & white film in 1947 between the months of February and June, inclusive, from his small private airplane. The shots are predominantly of the most developed streets in Baton Rouge such as Plank Road, Scenic Highway, Choctaw Street, Florida Street, and Florida Boulevard. He occasionally flew over and photographed areas that were being developed in 1947. One roll is entirely devoted to images of the current Louisiana State University campus and vicinity.

Title: G. H. Suydam Photograph Album
Commercial photographs of twelve Baton Rouge buildings (e.g., the Louisiana State Capitol and the Deaf, Dumb and Blind Asylum) and street scenes and eight photographs of Admiral David G. Farragut's fleet on the Mississippi River. Memoranda handwritten on the reverse side of the photographs identify the Federal camp, headquarters of the generals, the provost marshall's office, and the general hospital; scenes at the grounds of the Baton Rouge Arsenal; and gunboats (e.g., the "Essex") and other vessels of Farragut's fleet.
Title: Gras-Lauzin Family Papers
This collection is comprised of approximately 70 Civil War era letters and documents from the Gras-Lauzin Papers manuscript collection at LSU Libraries, Special Collections. The majority of items are letters between Henrietta Lauzin and her friends and family between 1861-1867. Henrietta Lauzin was the great-grand-daughter of Antonio Gras, an early settler in Baton Rouge in the 18th Century. Some letters include full-text searchable transcriptions.
Title: Harper's Weekly Journal and Frank Leslie's Illustrated Newspaper
Harper's Weekly, a new era in American journalism dawned in the 1850s with the advent of magazines and newspapers that combined general-interest content, and lavish illustrations. Its context of escalating sectional animosity over slavery inhibited the newspaper’s coverage and undermined the potentially unifying character of a nationwide audience.

Title: Hermann Moyse Sr. World War I Collection
The Hermann Moyse Sr. World War I digital collection is comprised of over 150 letters from February 1917 to November 1919. The majority of the correspondence is between Hermann Moyse and Rosalie Gottlieb, and details his military training in Arkansas and Texas, eventual deployment to France, and subsequent wounding. Moyse and Gottlieb married in 1920. This digital collection has 20 folders, which each contain multiple letters from a specific time period.

This collection is comprised of assorted images of Baton Rouge found in the Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley manuscript collections at LSU Libraries, Special Collections. The images are predominantly from the 19th Century and focus on the downtown Baton Rouge area

Black and white photographs depict Louisiana governor Huey P. Long; Russell Long; former Louisiana Governor Oramel Hinckley Simpson; James P. O'Connor, Public Service Commissioner; Louisiana Governor O. K. Allen; John Overton; U.S. Senator Hattie Carraway; and others.
Title: Integration and the Black Experience at LSU
Integration and the Black Experience at LSU is a unique collection that includes audio files and transcripts from oral history interviews conducted from 1985 to 1998 of black students, faculty, and administrators at LSU during integration (1950-1970). Additional interviewees include lawyers and their clients who were involved in key lawsuits, as well as politicians and others who were vocal opponents or supporters of integration.
Title: John Langdon Ward Lantern Slides
The collection consists of 107 lantern slides documenting the aftermath of the Siege of Port Hudson, Louisiana from May 23 - July 9, 1863. John Langdon Ward may have created these slides dating from circa 1880.
Title: John T. Mendes Photograph Collection
Between 1916 and the mid-1930s, John Tibule Mendes (1888-1965) was a consistent and curious observer of life in the Crescent City. His collection offers a vivid impression of New Orleans during the roaring '20s.

Title: Leon Trice Louisiana political photographs
Leon Trice was a New Orleans area photographer, active from 1920 to 1972. He worked for the New Orleans States newspaper and later for the Associated Press. He also ran his own studio. This collection of Trice's political photographs spans the 1920s - 1940s with most of the photographs being from the late 1920s through 1930s. It depicts some of Louisiana's most famous elected officials in a variety of situations - campaigning, at home with family, in staged photo opportunities, at work, and even lying in repose. Among the political leaders featured are Huey P. Long, Earl Long, Richard Leche, O.K. Allen, and others. Preserving Louisiana's political culture is a special mission of the Louisiana Research Collection (LaRC). LaRC preserves the papers of many prominent Louisiana politicians, including Hale Boggs, Lindy Boggs, David Treen, Thomas C. Catchings, Sam Jones, Randall Lee Gibson, F. Title: Louisiana State Documents Digital Archive
Louisiana law requires that state agencies submit copies of their publications to the Recorder of Documents for distribution to the member libraries of the Louisiana State Document Depository Program. This program preserves and assures the availability of state publications for use by the public throughout the state. State agencies are allowed to fulfill their statutory obligation to participate in the Depository Program by providing documents in electronic format. The primary goal of the Digital Archive is to provide the public with permanent access to these digital publications that state agencies submit. Louisiana state documents, print and digital, are cataloged in the State Library's online catalog and are available for use by all libraries regardless of depository status.

Title: LSU AgCenter Sugar Research Station
This collection is comprised of LSU Libraries materials related to the agriculture and manufacture of sugar. Materials were chosen by the LSU Sugar Research Station and funded in part by the American Sugar Cane League. A near complete run of The Sugar Bulletin is available in the collection.
Title: LSU Architectural Drawings by Theodore Link
Theodore C. Link designed most of the buildings for LSU when the campus was relocated in the 1920's. This group of approximately 200 drawings provide architectural, wiring, heating and plumbing specification for buildings across the campus. Many of the architectural plans provide detailed views of unique stuctural elements. The drawings are arranged in series by the names of buildings.

To mark the sesquicentennial of the Civil War, LSU's Special Collections staff has digitized selected items from the LSU Libraries Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley Collections (LLMVC). This collection represents the cultural and political aspects of the conflict, and life in antebellum Louisiana. Sources include books, periodicals, maps, manuscripts, state documents, and microfilm that support scholarly research in many areas, including religion, plantation management, slavery, French Creole identity and relations, and Southern nationalism.

"Mardi Gras Mambo: Selections from LSU Libraries Special Collections" is an assortment of Mardi Gras-related materials from 1875 to 1980. Mardi Gras celebrations in both New Orleans and Baton Rouge are represented in the photographs, programs, invitations, and other selected items.

This collection contains two different postcard collections found in the LSU Libraries Special Collections Louisiana and Lower Mississippi Valley manuscript collections. The Mississippi and Louisiana Postcard Collection contains 93 items and spans from 1906-1939 and the Louisiana Postcard Collection contains 517 items from 1904-1951. Many landmarks in Louisiana and Mississippi are featured in the postcards.

Title: Maps from The Historic New Orleans Collection
The Historic New Orleans Collection has extensive holdings of significant manuscript and printed maps. Acquisition was begun by The Collection's founder, General L. Kemper Williams, in the 1920s and '30s. Since then considerable additions have been made including a wide range of maps dating from early colonial times to the present.
